In December 2012, a global survey ranked Singapore the unhappiest country in the world. Then, I saw this commercial airing inside a movie theater.leave a comment ( 1 ) I have traveled to Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, China, Australia, Taiwan and Hong Kong for as long I can remember. All my friends love travelling. Who doesn't, right? You get to play, shop, eat gourmet food, sight-see and party like there is no tomorrow. But honestly, the happiest moment of every trip I had been to wasn't the first day I landed at my holiday destination. Ironically, I felt the happiest when my plane touched down at Changi Airport. Every single time my plane arrived safely on our home ground, I was so relieved and grateful I had to suppress my strong urge to clap and cheer. Seriously, nothing feels better than being back at home. Albeit the overcrowding, property boom, stiff competition and many other woes present at the moment on our tiny little land, I love every bit of Singapore. I was born and raised here. I love the streets, the hawker, my HDB, the old uncle and aunties in my neighborhood who watched me grow up. On top of that, I love the very fact that we are safe from natural disaster. Whenever someone post a question to me about migrating, I would respond with a definite "no" without hesitation. Everyone has their own story to tell, and cINE65 provides you with the stage to do so. cINE65 is a short film competition for film enthusiasts to tell their Singapore story. It aims to strengthen the emotional connection to Singapore through film as well as to create a unique platform to recognize and inspire film-making talents. The competition was launched in July 2011 by Nexus (the MINDEF department responsible for Total Defence and National Education), inviting the public to share their Sinapore story through short films. Entries from the previous season were amazing. The second season were even more impressive. With the theme "I'll Be There For You, Singapore", cINE65 II attracted 166 films entries across the three categories - Jury's Choice Awards, Audience Choice Award and the Inter-School Challenge. This was more than double that of the inaugural run in 2011, which received 72 entries. Yesterday, on the 9th July 2013, cINE65 concluded its second season of short film competition at Golden Village Grand, Great World City. "Priceless" claimed the "Overall Best Film" and "Best Screenplay" in the Open Category. And "Going Away" winning the "Overall Best Film" in the Student Category. Both teams walked away with the gran prize of an overseas learning trip to a regional film festival in addition to cash prices and Panasonic cameras. Short film "Honey" won the Favourite Film award, whic was determined by public voting. The inter-School Challenge Trophy, a new award this season, went to Temasek Polytechnic, which submitted the highest number of quality entries in the Student Category. Now, let us honor the winners:

The power of new media lies not within its ability to reach many people, but its ability to evoke emotions which subsequently, set off a series of chain effect. Ending this post with a line my friend told me today, "Don't not underestimate small beginnings." |
